The Armden PM40 27.5 Mountain Bike is a great entry level mountain bike for casual, recreational riding that you can also take on beginner off road trails. But why 27.5? Why not the 26 or the 29er?
For sure, the 27.5 looks like the red headed step child of the mountain bike world. That is, until you get on it and start crossing rocks with it. With 27.5, you will accelerate faster than a 29er, but you’ll get over more objects than a 26”. You can still execute those gnarly techniques that you would do on a 26”, but would stop cold on a 29er. 27.5? That’s the Swiss army knife of wheel sizes in the mountain bike world.
And the PM40’s got just what you need to get started. Its lockable suspension fork let’s you turn on the suspension when the going gets rough, or turn it off when you’re just kicking around on smooth tarmac roads, and everything in between. The disc brakes bring superior braking ability for rain and muddy conditions, if you decide to get dirty. It’s got 3X7 speeds, which is just enough speeds to tackle pretty much any kind of light duty off roading.
Why this is the bike for you: You’re just getting into Mountain Biking, or you want to ride on both the asphalt and sometimes in the off road. Your terrain is more like, “Yeah sure, I’ll do a little bit of off road.”
What are you getting: A lightweight, no frills mountain bike that can take on light duty trail riding, and pretty much any kind of urban riding.
